Potty training is a big transition for everyone. Here is some advice on ways you can help your special little one be successful.
Behavior, Featured, Parenting, Potty Training, Skills and ActivitesRegression during potty training is a completely natural and common experience. Most children will go through some degree of regression with regards to potty training at some point.
Behavior, Parenting, Potty Training, Skills and ActivitesWhat child doesn’t like a little naked time? Well, now you can use that crazy love of bare butt-ed-ness to learn a new skill, going potty! This method is very effective for first time potty goers and for children who have had some regression. And did we mention it’s REALLY easy?
Behavior, Parenting, Potty Training, Skills and ActivitesYes, it’s true. Potty training in a day is possible, and not as hard as you might think.
You will notice with a brand new baby that they communicate everything. Whether or not you understand them is a completely different story. This becomes our “job” as parents, to learn the difference between their “hungry” cry and their “hold me” cry, to be able to see the signs and read your baby in order to provide them with what they need and want. Potty, or at first, elimination, is the same thing. A newborn will let you know, just as he does with everything else, when he needs to/when he does evacuate himself. It may be loud and obvious, it may be very subtle, but they will tell you. When you cover your baby up with a diaper, you subconsciously stop listening and looking for those signs, and you start teaching your baby not to communicate those signals. You check the diaper, and the diaper is your guide, not your baby. You may notice time patterns and eating/pooping patterns, but you stop relying on your baby for those signs. The first step to IPT is a return to those signs. IPT is also commonly known as ‘elimination communication’ because that is exactly what you are doing, you are learning and teaching your baby how to communicate their bowel needs.

Infant potty training is potty training done at an earlier age than most Americans are used to. Infant potty training begins usually around 4 months, with complete autonomy around 18 months of age. The average age in the United States for potty training is around 36 months for girls, and 39 months for boys. The average amount of time it takes to go from diapers to being ‘potty trained’ at that older age varies around 10 months. Potty training as an infant is definitely not a new technique. In many other countries including Russia, India, Africa, and some European countries, potty training before the age of two is the norm. And before 1950, even the United States followed suite.
