Review: Happi Tummi

I am shocked at how many parents of never heard of the Happi Tummi.

When my now three year old was a baby, she had terrible tummy troubles. She was exclusively breastfed and I cut out dairy, certain vegetables, beans, everything I was told and could think of to help ease her belly.

Grandmas to the rescue!

First my Mother discovered the best Gripe Water ever from Mommy’s Bliss. That was a very big help for my little one. But there were times when even that wonderful concoction couldn’t entirely ease her pain. My husband’s Mother than took to Google and searched at a feverish pace trying to figure out how to help her new grandbaby. She found and immediately ordered a Happi Tummi wrap.

When the wrap arrived (very quickly, but she may have paid extra for super fast shipping knowing the baby was hurting) I used it right away when my daughter was showing signs of upset. Holy cow… there was an immediate and very noticeable reaction. She calmed right away, relaxed her body, and let out some wonderful ‘toots’! Her hard as a rock tummy turned softer and softer within a minute as she was able to gently release what she needed to. I love that Happi Tummi so much! And even though my baby has now outgrown her tummy troubles, it is still one of the few baby products I will not lend or share to any of my mother mates. I just can’t part with it!

Here’s how the Happi Tummi works:

The Happi Tummi is a two piece wrap. The outer part is a super soft (feels minky) fabric with a pocket that closes with velcro. Inside of the pocket is an herbal pouch filled with lavender, chamomile, lemon grass, peppermint, spearmint, wheat and flax seed. Similar ingredients to the Gripe Water I love so much.

When the baby has an upset tummy due to colic, gas, etc., you remove the pouch and pop it in the microwave for 15 – 20 seconds. Of course you want to test the temperature on yourself before using it with your baby to prevent burns. When the pouch is at a nice warm temperature, put it back in the pocket and velcro shut. Then you wrap the whole thing, with the pocket resting on the baby’s tummy, around your child and velcro it in the back to help hold it in place. Of course you supervise your child while using the product.

The warmth from the wrap instantly helps to calm and relax the baby which in turn relaxes their stomach muscles and surrounding area allowing air/gas/etc. to move through their system easier. The herbs that have been heated create a wonderful aroma that helps to further calm tummy issues. The two together – practically a miracle for a hurting, screaming baby.

The Happi Tummi site claims it can be used for up to 45 uses if used and stored properly. Honestly, I think it can go longer. You can also order replacement pouches when (if!) yours runs low on the scent.

The Happi Tummi is also pediatrician tested and approved, and is the only product like it on the market that I have seen. It also comes in three vibrant colors.

Retails for $19.95

My mother always, and still does, use lavender to calm me. She would pick it from our yard and put it under my pillow and hang it in my room to calm me. To this day it is my favorite scent and I can never pass up fresh lavender. I can see how it would be a great relaxant in this product. I can’t wait to order one.
