Crock Pot Oatmeal Caramel Apples
September 8, 2011 3 CommentsI first saw a recipe called Crock Pot Caramel Apples posted by Bearable Deals. I thought it looked so yummy! But I decided to play with the recipe just a bit to make it even more appealing.
Ingredients:
3 Sweet Cooking Apples (I use Gala apples)
3/4 cup Apple Juice
3 tbsp. Butter
3 tbsp. Brown Sugar
3. tbsp. Oatmeal
Cinnamon
3 Caramel Cubes
Directions:
Peel the top half of each apple.
Remove 3/4 of the core using a small spoon, knife, or a core remover.
Put apples into crock pot.
Pour apple juice over all the apples.
Put 1 tbsp butter into the empty core area of each apple.
Put 1 tbsp brown sugar on top of butter.
Sprinkle cinnamon over apples.
Put 1 tbsp oatmeal over brown sugar. Some will fall into the pot, that’s okay.
Flatten out each caramel cube and top your pile of oatmeal/sugar/butter as seen below.
Cook in crock pot for approximately 4 hours.
Mine are cooking right now! I’ll post the finished product in 3 hours when they are done.

Yummers! How did they turn out?
They turned out fantastic! It tasted like the inside of my mother’s apple crisp… Which is incredible.

I took the great base recipe, and tweaked it with a compilation of reviewer recommendations. The end result is a winner, to be sure. Here is what I did (and I won’t change a thing the next time I make it): 1. Increase flour to 1/3 cup and substitute seasoned salt for regular salt. Put flour mixture into gallon-sized, zippered bag. Shake beef in bag to coat. Saute9 coated beef in 1-2 tablespoons olive oil until browned. Add chopped onion to beef to saute9 and soften. Transfer to slow cooker. 2. Mix beef broth (I used Swanson’s Certified Organic in aseptic carton) with 1 TABLEspoon Worcestershire and bd cup red wine. Pour into hot skillet to deglaze, then pour over beef and onions in cooker. 3. Add remaining ingredients with these additions: increase garlic to 2 cloves minced, 2 bay leaves; add 1 packet McCormick’s Beef Stew Seasoning. Your home will smell wonderful all day, and your meal will be a savory feast! I served the stew in bowls, accompanied by slices of fresh, crusty bread.
